1. This division is subject to the general rules and
regulations and to these division rules.
2. No market will be furnished by the show for non-placing
hogs. Hogs not to be sold at auction must be removed from the swine barn
starting after the judging is complete, but no later than time specified on
Schedule of Events.
3. Any breed and crossbreed hogs – barrow or gilt – may be
exhibited in the Market Swine show. No
feral hogs will be allowed.
4. All market swine entries must be ear tagged in both
ears at official tag-in at time specified on Schedule of Important Dates &
Deadlines. An entry fee of $20.00 per
entry must be paid at this time.
5. Market hogs must have both ear tags in ear when it comes to show. If the hog loses one tag, the exhibitor must immediately contact the Market Swine Committee Chairman. If the hog loses both ear tags, it will not be eligible to show. (In other words, if a hog loses a tag, exhibitors must contact one of the above mentioned persons to get the tag replaced before the second tag is lost.)

6. Gilts entered in the Market Swine Division may be double
entered in the Breeding Swine Division.
A separate entry fee and entry form must be submitted for each
division. Entry fees are not
refundable.
7. Exhibitors will be allowed to enter as many hogs as they
want. An entry fee of $20.00 per
exhibitor will be charged per hog.
Exhibitors will be permitted to show only one market hog. All exhibitors in the same family unit may
enter more than one hog as a family unit group. Then the exhibitor may show any one of the hogs entered in
his/her family unit group name. All
exhibitors’ names that want to show must be included in the family group. An exhibitor must abide by all other rules
to be eligible to show. Exhibitor will
designate at time of weigh-in in April which animal he or she will exhibit. No substitutions will be allowed after the
animal has been weighed.
8. Market hogs will be weighed upon arrival at the swine
barn at specified time on Schedule of Events.
Qualifying weights are 200-300 pounds, with zero tolerance. All market swine will have one opportunity
to go across the official scales; if animal does not make the weight, the
animal will be (at exhibitor’s request) backed off the scales, scales will be
re-balanced, and animal will be re-weighted immediately. No weight tolerance will be allowed.
9. Market hogs will be divided into the five following
weight classes: light, medium, light heavy, medium heavy, and heavy
weight. The first eight (8) hogs
placing in each class will sell at auction and will receive ribbons.
10. Chapters or Clubs will not be permitted to show in the
Market Swine Show.
11. All hogs must have been owned and cared for by the
exhibitor not later than official tag-in.
12. There will be no change of the major color pattern of
the Market Swine by painting or dyeing.
Any grooming material that allows color or oil to come off the animal
will not be allowed to show. Only
water will be permitted on the Market Swine.
13. Exhibitor/parent/guardian found to alter the weight
of an animal on the scales during weigh-in will cause the animal to be
disqualified.
14. ETHICS RULE:
Each exhibitor, his or her parent(s) and/or guardian(s) agrees to abide
by the General and Special Rules published in the current year’s Livestock
Catalog and/or amendments available at Tag-In.
Any violation of these rules or any exhibitor and/or parent(s)
guardian(s) found to have participated in unethical practice – i.e. (1)
approaching buyers for the purpose of asking to exchange, return or purchase
any sale item(s), (2) the showing of any animal that has been administered any
unapproved/unlabeled medication – will forfeit all privileges, awards, premiums
won and will be barred from exhibiting at further Cleveland Livestock Shows.
MARKET SWINE FITTING AND SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST
1. This contest is open to all FFA members and 4-H members
showing market hogs.
2. Fitting, grooming and showmanship will be considered in
selecting winners.
3. The showmanship contest will be held immediately after
the judging is completed. There will be
three age groups: Senior, 10th-12th Graders; Junior, 7th-9th
Graders; and Sub-Juniors, 9 years old or 3rd-6th
Graders. Any market hog exhibitor may
enter this showmanship contest, but they must show their own animal.
4. The Swine Judge will select the winners in the contest.
5. First and Second Place in each age division will receive
buckles.
