1. This division is subject to the general rules and
regulations and to these division rules.
2. Official weigh-in will be at specified times on Schedule
of Important Dates and Deadlines at Stancil Park. The weight of a steer on this date cannot be less than 400 pounds
nor exceed 800 pounds. Steer will be
weighed only one time – if animal does not make the weight it may be (at
exhibitor’s request) backed off the scales; scales will be re-balanced, and
animal will be re-weighed immediately.
No weight tolerance will be allowed.
3. Steer entries must be paid at the official weigh-in. The entry fee is $20.00 per steer. All exhibitors in the same family unit,
after paying entry fees and filling out entry card, may show any one of the steers
entered in his/her family unit name.
All exhibitors’ names that want to show must be included in the family
group. Each exhibitor will be allowed
to weigh-in any number of steers at time of tag-in, but will be allowed to show
only one (1) at the show. Each
exhibitor must abide by all other rules to be eligible to show. All entries must be entered and entry fee
paid on due date to be included in family unit group. Exhibitor will designate at time of weigh-in in April which
animal he or she will exhibit. No
substitutions will be allowed after the animal has been weighed.
4. Steers will be ear tagged in each ear, and nose printed
at weigh-in. Steer must have tag in
both ears when he comes to the show. If
the animal loses one tag, the exhibitor must contact the Steer Chairman
immediately. If the steer loses both
ear tags, it will not be eligible to show. (In other words, if a steer loses an
ear tag, exhibitors must contact the above mentioned person to get tag replaced
before the second tag is lost.)
5. Each exhibitor must be able to show his/her steer unassisted. For the safety of steer exhibitors, ANY STEER DEEMED UNRULY BY THE STEER JUDGE may BE removed from the SHOW ARENA at the discretion of the judge. Any ANIMAL removed from the show arena will not QUALIFY FOR THE YOUTH AUCTION. Steers will be shown at halter, and proper showing paraphernalia is encouraged. All ethical techniques of proper grooming and fitting steers for show will be permitted.
6. Steer check-in: Steers must weigh in on scales at Stancil
Park and be tied in place at the time specified on Schedule of Events. Exhibitors must remove sweat collars from
their steers when they weigh-in their steer at the show. Steers must be dehorned before weigh-in at
show.
7. Steers that do not gain a minimum of 2.5 pounds per day
during the feeding period will be considered sifted. At tag-in and final weigh-in, steers will have one opportunity to
go across the official scales, if animal does not make the weight it may be (at
exhibitor’s request) backed off the scales; scales will be re-balanced, and
animal will be re-weighed immediately.
No weight tolerance will be allowed.
8. The remaining certified steers in the show will be
divided into three classes on the basis of weight for the purpose of
judging. The classes will be determined
after all steers have been weighed. The
steers will be in 3 classes with the judging starting with the lightest steers
going to the heaviest steers. Steers
will be placed one through the number in the class. Ribbons will be awarded to the first six steers in each class.
9. The showmanship contest will be held immediately after
the judging of the three classes. There
will be two age groups: Seniors –
exhibitors 14 years of age and older, and Juniors – exhibitors under 14 years
of age. Any Market Steer exhibitor may
enter this showmanship contest.
Exhibitors must own the animal they show in this contest. Contestants will be grouped according to
their age on the day of the show.
10. After the completion of showmanship contest, all steers
will be brought back into the arena to select the Grand and Reserve Champion
Steer and to place the sale order. The
top 40 placing steers will be sold in the Youth Auction.
11. A belt buckle will be awarded to the highest-ranking
In-County Bred Steer. There will not be
a separate show for Champion In-County Steer; it will be in conjunction with
the Market Steer Show. To be eligible
for this award exhibitor must have filled out an In-County Steer Affidavit at
time of Official Weigh-in/tag-in. The
Award will be given at the Youth Auction.
12. Steer Committee reserves the right to interpret, amend
and/or add to these rules as it, in its judgment, is deemed advisable.
13. Exhibitors will be expected to be in the show arena with
their steers at specified time on Schedule of Events for the purpose of
arranging sale order. Exhibitors not
present with their steer when the sale order is called will be scratched from
the sale.
14. All market steer exhibitors who had animals in the
auction must be outside of the west end of the rodeo pens at time specified on
Schedule of Events on Saturday to load their animals.
15. “For Sale” signs will not be permitted in the livestock
barns for projects during the show.
16. Exhibitor/parent/guardian found to alter the weight
of an animal on the scales during weigh-in will cause the animal to be
disqualified.
17. ETHICS RULE: Each exhibitor, his or her parent(s) and/or
guardian(s) agrees to abide by the General and Special Rules published in the
current year’s Livestock Catalog and/or amendments available at Tag-In. Any violation of these rules or any
exhibitor and/or parent(s) guardian(s) found to have participated in unethical
practice – i.e. (1) approaching buyers for the purpose of asking to exchange,
return or purchase any sale item(s), (2) the showing of any animal that has
been administered any unapproved/unlabeled medication – will forfeit all
privileges, awards, premiums won and will be barred from exhibiting at further
Cleveland Livestock Shows.
