BREEDING SWINE FITTING AND SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST
1. This contest is open to all FFA members and 4-H members
showing breeding swine.
2. There will be two age groups: Juniors – contestants under
14 years of age, and Seniors – contestants 14 years and older. Contestants will be grouped according to
their age on the day of the show.
3. Fitting, grooming and showmanship will be considered in
selecting winners.
4. Exhibitors competing in this contest must have an animal
entered in this division and must own the animal shown in the showmanship
contest.
5. The judge of the Swine Show will select the winners in
the contest.
6. First and second place of each age division will receive
an award.

CLASSIFICATION
GUIDELINES FOR PUREBRED ANIMALS
DUROC – Red in color. (INELIGIBLE ANIMALS – animals
with white feet or white hair located directly above the feet-white socks; with
spots or white hair located anywhere on the remainder of the animal’s body not
mentioned previously; black spots larger than two inches in diameter located
anywhere on the body; excessive dark or black pigment located anywhere on the
body.)
HAMPSHIRE – Black in color with a white
belt starting on a front leg. The belt
may partially or totally encircle the body.
(INELIGIBLE ANIMALS – animals with droopy, rounded ears; animals
with white-streaking in the center of the face.)
LIGHT OPB – Chester Whites and
Yorkshires. White in color. (INELIGIBLE ANIMALS – any hair
other than white located on any part of the animal’s body; non-white skin
pigmentation larger than a silver dollar – one spot or combination of spots;
masking around the forehead; lack breed characteristics.)
DARK OPB – Berkshire and Spotted Swine. General color shall be black and white with
points appearing on nose, feet and tail (any of these points may be missing or
an occasional splash of white may appar on the body). (INELIGIBLE ANIMALS – any color present on the animal
other than black and white; solid black from ears forward; animals having a
combination of a black leg and black foot; or a complete belt formation around
the one-third (1/3) front of the body reaching over the upper portion of the
shoulder; Berkshires with round and heavy, drooped ears, or Spots with very
erect ears.)
CROSSBREED – Any animal that does not fit
into a classification above.
